Matt Summers

Appalachian-raised web application developer with experience in full-stack, JavaScript-based projects.

I'm a 24 year old West Virginia transplant currently residing in the Atlanta suburbs. After years of retail banking and customer service experience, I decided to throw myself into the wild and wonderful world of application development and I am currently searching for my new home to continue to grow in my life and career. Outside of code, I am involved in my local community theatre as an actor in various musical theate performances. In my free time I love to play video games and spend time exploring my town with my family and friends.

Skills

Thus far in my development journey, I have had project experience using the following technologies:

  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • JavaScript
  • Python
  • Node.js
  • Express.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • React.js
  • Redux
  • Git

Projects

The following projects were all completed during my time at DigitalCrafts coding bootcamp, listed in chronological order of completion.

Hollywoof

Hollywoof

Hollywoof was our first major group project during the cohort, exploring front end techologies and persisting data via an API. It is a movie curation app, where the user takes a short quiz to determine a movie recommendation that might fit their current needs. My main focus on this project was the logical flow of the user experience, utilizing DOM manipulation to display different questions and finally using the collected data from the user to make an API call that would return the film recommendation.

Supernova Cantina

Supernova Cantina

Supernova Cantina was created to test our back-end knowledge by establishing a database to store user login information, as well as saving game state so somebody could jump back in at any point and continue playing from where they left off. This is a retro-scifi themed bar simulator game, where the goal is to make as much many as possible by selling alien drinks in a given time period. My focus on this project was encrypting passwords and storing them in the database as well as the logic for each game phase.

Dinner & A Show

Dinner & A Show

Dinner & A Show was my first ever solo project, built using my newfound knowledge of React and Redux. The app will prompt the user for their location and a date range, searching the Ticketmaster API for any events that fit their desires. Once a user selects an event, another API call is done to find restaurants nearby the venue. The user can then add the restaurant to their plan and send themselves a reminder email on the date and time of the event as well as the location of the venue and chosen restaurant.
